Pectus Excavatum??

Pectus Excavatum...say that 3 times fast. Before you whip out your dictionaries to look up this term, I will clarify: it is the most common congenital deformity of the anterior chest wall and it produces a caved in appearance of the chest. It is generally cosmetic and sometimes genetic. We noticed that when Sylas breathes, his chest sucks in slightly near the lower part of his sternum. The doctor told us what it was and also reassured us that it would not cause Sylas any breathing or heart problems. Sounds good to me!

We also found out that our little peanut weighs 11 pounds, 7 ounces which puts him at 50th percentile on the DS growth chart. He is 22.25 inches which is the 20th percentile. Keep drinking that breast milk Sylas!

The doctor was very impressed by his ability to hold up his head when he is on his tummy. When I got home from the appointment, I had a message from his PT. Lots of fun, he will be starting PT home visits next Friday!

  1. You've have got one the most adorable babies I've ever seen! My God I just want to jump through the screen and squeeze his little cheeks. My DD has Turner's syndrome and also has the pectus excavatum. I didn't know that kids with DS can have that also. I guess i never thought about it. Thank you for sharing your prenatal story. i was lucky with my little one and had very kind a compassionate dr's. It just makes me so angry when I hear stories like these and in front of your other children also. What a shame. Love your blog, dear :)

  3. I LOVE the blog and videos! Can't believe "GOO" is already over 20 pounds! Sorry I couldn't get you the CD with all the babtism pictures, but Kathy said she gave you her copy so you do have them. There were some really sweet ones. Hope you liked them. It's going to be a long dry spell with no Sam and Sophie (and now Sylas) fix. But the blog really helps aleviate that! Thanks for sharing! Marge in Stillwater

  4. Thanks Marge for the photos! I think you saw the "20%", Sylas is a peanut at 11 lbs 7oz. You must have been wondering what I was feeding him! The kids miss seeing you and your sweet dog. They talk about how your dog and Lola could be circus dogs together and do tricks!
    Love,
    Elena
